I write following the most memorable day's racing i have ever had. i visited cheltenham on april 20 as one of the connections of the andy crooktrained jonty's lass. having been unable to attend her previous race at newbury, in which she was a gallant and brave second to henrietta knight's harringay in the ebf mares' final, i was definitely going to attend cheltenham my first visit to the mecca of national hunt racing ; . due to the stronger opposition, we weren't expecting her to better her newbury second, but tammy as jonty's lass is better known in the yard ; didn't know that. she displayed her usual guts and determination to chase golden bay all the way up that cheltenham hill to cheers and shouts from connections, only to be denied by an equally tough mare. congratulations to both mares for a tremendous finish, as they were a credit to both sets of connections, suzy smith and our very own andy crook. while horses can't be trained to develop guts and determination, i must say what a great job andy and his team have done with tammy. for us to visit newbury and cheltenham with jonty's lass in listed races and finish second was beyond our wildest dreams, so to andy i send my thanks for making one of my dreams come true. it really shows that, given the right horses, he is a great horseman and trainer. many thanks also go to jackie crook and the rest of the team for the hard work they have put in over the last eight months, as well as tom greenall and doug costello for their great efforts in the saddle. finally, well done to tammy on a great season. enjoy your summer at home i already looking forward to next season.
